Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What can I expect from myo therapy?

Myo therapy is much like going to the gym for your mouth. You will be expected to practice exercises for at least 10 minutes 3 times per day. This practice transforms the function and often even the structure of your face and that is where the benefit is. Breathing exercises may also be integrated. Melanie may also use manual manipulation as a therapeutic tool using slow, static, non-manipulative touch in the mouth, on the face, or body.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not. Because of Melanie’s holistic background and personalized attention, insurance is not a good fit for us. We do however provide codes per request, for patients who have out of network benefits and wish to submit to insurance on their own. We also accept HSA/FSA Cards.

Do you offer single sessions?

No. Myo requires a commitment which begins with an evaluation and a follow-up session package typically of 2 sessions per month for 6 months. The program is sequentially built.

What ages is therapy for?

Technically our program works for anyone over 4 years of age; however our office is only set up for those 10 years and older. Our oldest client is 81 years old. Anyone can improve.

Do you work virtually?

We primarily work in-person at our Hillsborough office.

What Our Clients Are Saying About Us

Kara

Durham,NC

It's hard for me to believe I've only worked with Melanie for 4 months - she has helped me in so many areas and I am so grateful for her knowledge, compassion, and support. Our sessions primarily focused on orofacial myology, but also included wellness coaching and herbalism. I've noticed I get deeper sleep since I am no longer mouth breathing at night and it may seem weird, but I occasionally would hit my teeth when going to take a drink and that never happens anymore. The exercises and massages that Melanie taught me have helped my jaw and mouth pain as well as improving my breathing. Throughout my sessions, I felt fully seen and heard, and Melanie always went above and beyond. I highly recommend Melanie in all of her healing modalities!

Mary

Durham, NC

Initially I was referred to Melanie by my dentist. She did orofacial myofunctional therapy with me which helped me greatly reduce chronic headaches I was having in part due in part to my tongue tie. I highly recommend her to anyone. She is so knowledgeable about a myriad of issues.
